"Unboundary reimagines communal architecture, breaking societal divides and redefining public spaces through dynamic design and cultural integration."
The Unboundary project challenges conventional architecture by redefining the concept of communal spaces. Located within the abandoned Phra Khanong Rama Theater on Sukhumvit Road, this transformative design reinvigorates 4,700 square meters of dormant space into a hub for cultural exchange and public interaction.
Drawing inspiration from the diverse urban fabric, the design employs porosity circulation, allowing seamless integration of insiders and outsiders. By combining spatial permeability with the principle of community watching, the space becomes inherently safer and more inclusive. Community members take ownership of their surroundings, while visitors experience an authentic cultural immersion.
The architecture features three distinct zones, each defined by a unique grid and color scheme. Yellow zones are dedicated to community sharing, bridging local and communal interactions. Gray zones serve as platforms for engagement between the local community and the public, fostering dialogue and shared experiences. Red zones, visible from Sukhumvit Road, act as public interaction spaces, connecting street life to the interior.
This bold reconfiguration of a neglected site transforms it into a cultural nexus, transcending barriers of class and fostering a dialogue that unites diverse users. Unboundary stands as a manifesto for architecture’s ability to dissolve societal divisions, creating spaces that celebrate inclusion, collaboration, and shared humanity.
