"Reimagining public libraries as dynamic social hubs through bold, community-centered design."
Bookpark Library transforms the conventional concept of a library into a vibrant community hub nestled beneath the Tao-Poon MRT station. This design competition project explores how architecture can bridge the gap between urban development and local culture. The library serves as a catalyst for social interaction and a space for fostering knowledge and community well-being.
Strategically located in a transitional zone between modern infrastructure and a traditional neighborhood, the library embraces the tension between these contrasting environments. The design leverages the unused space under the MRT station, creating a multi-functional facility that integrates public needs with architectural innovation.
The library comprises three distinct zones: an academic library, a leisure library, and a children’s library. Surrounding these are thoughtfully designed public spaces, including a multipurpose area, a restaurant, gathering spaces, and landscaped zones. Each element prioritizes accessibility, functionality, and inclusivity, reflecting a deep understanding of the community’s needs.
Bookpark Library stands as more than just a repository of books; it embodies a vision of urban harmony where diverse groups come together to share, learn, and grow. With its modern design and sustainable approach, the library is poised to become a landmark of cultural and architectural significance.
